115 If renovations are to be carried out on existing slides, the joints of the slides must be checked, any cracks that may have formed on the slide surfaces must be repaired, and parts that leak water from the joints must be revised; slides whose colors have faded must be repainted with suitable paint. Soft covers should be installed on the stainless steel, galvanized, or reinforced concrete bases of slide carriers and towers to prevent slide users from colliding with them and causing any accidents; if possible, precautions should be taken to prevent people from entering under the slide carriers. Pump suction filters connected for water circulation in aquaparks should be designed so that swimmers cannot reach them. Warning and instruction signs in several languages should be placed for pools and slides. To prevent potential accidents, emergency start- stop buttons that will immediately shut down the system should be placed in easily accessible locations around the pools and on each slide. One safety officer should be stationed at each slide tower; furthermore, care should be taken to ensure that a lifeguard is present at each of these facilities. Maintenance and Protection Practices to Extend Equipment Life The technical spaces of pools and water parks, i.e., machine rooms, should be enclosed and have forced or natural ventilation. Routine maintenance of the pumps, filters, valves, and motor control electrical panels of the slides must be performed regularly. At the end of each season, pools should be closed using winter maintenance chemicals; all cleaning and technical maintenance should be performed before the season opens. The underwater lights, nozzles, bottom drain strainers, and overflow grates of each pool should be inspected individually; broken or faulty ones should be identified and replaced. In terms of construction, the ceramic coverings, grouting, overflow channels, grates, and balance tanks of the pools, as well as the machine room ventilation, entrances and exits, electrical installations, grounding installations, filling and emptying installations, chemical lines, and storage should be tested and checked; and should be renewed if necessary, without waiting for the material usage periods to expire. Key Criteria for a Successful Pool and Aquapark Renovation From my perspective, facilities should be well-designed, visually appealing, up-to-date, and equipped with innovations; they should blend the landscape with the materials used, be calculated according to international and local standards, be easy to use, comfortable, spacious, clean, safe, and well-managed, prioritizing customer satisfaction.
