RENOVATION - SERAPOOL Porcelain
The Need for Renovation and Initial Challenges Explaining the reasons that led the homeowner to renovate the pool in the villa project in Çeşme, Dilara Gür said, “There can be many reasons that require the renovation of buildings and open spaces. These include visible physical damage, areas that have lost their functionality, changing user needs over time, or technical malfunctions caused by plumbing.” She continued: “In this project we carried out in Çeşme, we first encountered a pool that was constantly malfunctioning and inadequate electrical wiring. The electrical panels were located in a damp area, the old mosaics had started to fall off, and their colors had faded over time. However, in my opinion, the two most critical issues were the pool leaking water and the electrical wiring posing serious safety risks. When all these factors came together, renovation became inevitable.” Technical Challenges Encountered During Renovation Gür described the main architectural and technical challenges they faced during the pool renovation process, stating: “The biggest architectural challenge we faced in this project was ensuring that the new pool design harmonized with the overall architecture of the house and the garden layout.” A classic pool in the garden of a modern house, or vice versa, can create visual chaos. Therefore, it was critical to choose colors, textures, and forms that were appropriate for the existing fabric of the house, the materials used (e.g., tiles and pool details), and the landscaping. This required creative solutions without compromising on aesthetics, despite the limitations of the existing space. In renovating an old pool, the infrastructure systems present a separate challenge. Determining how much of the existing water and electrical installations and drainage systems can be reused and how much needs to be completely 36 The Power of Renovation: Froman Outdated Poolto aModern Living Space An old pool in Çeşme was not only renovated but also transformed into a contemporary living space that blends with the architecture of the house, thanks to the touch of interior designer Dilara Gür.
