RENOVATION - SERAPOOL Porcelain

“In this project, which we approached with a modern tropical theme, ramped anti-slip entrances, underwater seating areas, islands, bridges, different swimming zones, jacuzzis, and semi- Olympic areas were designed as a whole. The shade and spatial depth created by tropical plants enhanced the three-dimensional perception of the pool. At that time, porcelain tiles were not at today’s technical and aesthetic level. Therefore, to convey the feeling of the depths of tropical seas, I designed a multi-colored tone pattern using 2x2 glass mosaics. This approximately 4,000 m² pool was visually very effective; however, over the years, the mosaics became difficult to maintain and repair. During the renovation twenty years later, the same pattern was reinterpreted using Serapool’s 5x5 porcelain products. The design did not change; only the material that carried it evolved. Material is the Narrator of Design Expressing that every project has a story, Tosun described the relationship between design and material with the following words: “This story is sometimes told with small tiles, sometimes with large surfaces, sometimes with figurative patterns, and sometimes with a simple, monochromatic language. However, this story must be unique to the project; it cannot be copied or repeated. At this point, material is the most powerful narrator of design. Serapool porcelain products offer designers great freedom in the design process with their variety of colors, textures, and sizes. The ability to produce custom items with R&D support when needed expands the boundaries of design. This approach, which values the designer, directly feeds the originality of the projects.” A Design Language Adapted to Time: Fame Residence Lara Hotel Fame Residence Lara Hotel is one of the key projects illustrating how my design language has evolved over time. In 2005, in line with the hotel’s identity, we used Serapool porcelain mosaics enriched with star motifs and a dynamic and colorful pattern language. In the renovation carried out in 2025, we reinterpreted the space 16 SERAPOOL l RENOVATION Royal Wings Hotel
